The story idea is good, and the characters are likeable. Clean romance. The spelling is terrible, with misspellings such as immerged instead of emerged. The author also frequently confuses homophones, like vale and veil, which is annoying. I don't remember seeing anywhere the author used your instead of you're so that's something....
The story is frequently not true to the historical setting. The author is correct about the importance of a woman's reputation, but then fails to follow through in a consistent way in the behavior of the H and h.
Probably worth $.99. The story would be great if it were extensively revised and the characters more fully developed and true to the time period.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Not only was it exciting and fun and clean, it was full of great characters and twists and turns. It moved at a good pace to keep me interested, wondering what was next. I would definitely recommend this book.
I love historical romances. This one is one that I really enjoyed with a strong but feminine heroine who grew up loving & knowing the man she wants forever. The story of how this happens & what she may do to get that love is what you will find in these pages. The hero was not perfect, he was raised to be a certain way and we get to know him well & know that Kate is what he needs. She is his match but...no I'm not going to say more on that part... That is all part of what makes this book a very nice romance. On just that alone it's as great read but there is more to this story.
Without much spoiler this is the story of few different families growing up together, combined with the story of five men who have s bond that grows with them as well. I'd like to see more of those stories of the other men & more of this bond they have. There is laughter, war, separation, mysterious betrayal, suspense and includes a real heroine folded within and in such a wonderful way. Kate grew up with these men & just blends into this story as if she is meant to be there. I obviously loved Kate and hoped she would win the day with her deep love for Nick. Most stories tell you the heroine's are so strong, brave etc but in this book I felt it & experienced it first-hand.
I don't normally like the end of Napoleon era romances but this one didn't bother me, I enjoyed it! It is not heavily burdened with too much historical information and a war that usually makes my eyes glaze over, lol. It's just right with its historical touches. Sometimes I don't want to know every detail of the room or clothing or the war, if I'm caught up with the story as I was here. It is a clean romance, too, which takes it a notch higher because I still felt all that love & there was no sexual activity in detail. I felt the love in a kiss that honestly did curl my toes. It was very much like my own first love and kisses (drat, I let him get away). Imagine waiting until one is married in a historical romance, too. That's the way it was in the class represented for that era. That's the way romance used to be written when I started reading as a teen. I find I really have missed it now that I've read this book and remember the magic of LOVE itself. That, my fellow readers of love, is true romance -- one that made me feel that magic. It makes me believe in it again after all these years. Wow. I found myself dreaming of the passion they could have for the rest of their lives, if they win the day. That from a kiss? Yes & the feelings with it. The only reason I didn't give full 5 stars is I wanted the bond to be explained more in the men and I wanted an epilogue of after but this did have a great ending & NO cliff hangers... YES! finally not a serial or cliff hanger. It's about time someone listened.
My personal thoughts I can get hundreds of thousands of books with lots of sexual activity but I don't usually feel the connection or feel the love because the story is often rushed & lost within a story not worth reading anyway. It's like the authors of today feel they won't get recognized if they don't put sex scenes within the first few chapters of reading with lots of sexuality etc. in the book (or abuse, which is becoming more common today). It's so refreshing to be brought back to my first reason for reading romances - Love and the magic of love!
My personal thanks to Julie Asay for bringing that truth back to me & thank you for a good romance! You are now one of my favorite authors. What a great book! Keep it up! I'll be waiting for your next ones. Dee
This was a sweet, interesting story, but the writing was meandering. It felt overwritten and under edited. A lot of paragraphs could have been cut out without losing any of the story. I prefer more concise writing, but the story was good and the romance clean.
This is my first time reading a book by this author, and I can't wait to read more from her. I highly recommend this clean romance novel.
I REALLY ENJOYED THE CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK, IN FACT I SEARCHED FOR ANOTHER FROM THIS AUTHOR AS SOON AS I FINISHED IT. THIS IS VERY WELL WRITTEN AND EDITED AND I HAVE A FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR!
Cute and romantic!
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It has intrigue, romance, and humor! AND it was clean! Who hasn't had a crush on an older sibling's friend? It was nice to see someone actually have success come from it. I can't wait to see what happens to the rest of "The Five". Does Marcus find love? Will the Duke (Jack) find love with all those gold diggers about? Where is Hugh and will he ever come home or continue life as a outcast hiding from his past? Poor tortured Harry, blinded in the war, who will love him? Will he find purpose in life again?
The story idea is good, and the characters are likeable. Clean romance.
